This website is a showcase of the 5-year research project "Renaissance Skin" which is funded by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award. This site is designed, on a practical level, to keep you informed of the events and other activities that our research team run or are engaged with. The website is designed, developed and maintained by King's Digital Lab and we have made an effort to make the content accessible and/or offer accessible alternatives to all audiences.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
change colours, contrast levels and fonts;
zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen;
navigate most of the website using just a keyboard;
navigate most of the website using speech recognition software;
skip to the main content when using a screen reader;
browse content without any readability issues (contrast complies with the AAA standards);
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).
We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
Twitter section on the homepage does not use the correct styling attributes in HTML tags;
videos on some child pages in the news section do not have captions;
certain tags used to highlight words or phrases may not be semantically detected by screen readers
the sidebar navigation part on some child pages under the section 'themes' have repeated caption and alternative texts.

Twitter section has improper usage of styling attributes
The Twitter section on the homepage does not use the correct styling attributes in HTML tags. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). It cannot be changed currently because it is a javascript embedded but we are looking at solutions to fix it.Videos have improper usage of styling attributes
The videos on some child pages in the news section do not have captions and are not using the correct styling attributes in HTML tags. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) and 4.1.2 (Name, role, value). It cannot be changed currently because it is embedded by the Wagtail system, which we have no control of and cannot change.Incorrect semantic markup
Some text in bold and in italics format are wrapped in <b> and <i> tags so screen readers will not be able to detect. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). These are added when using a third party application CMS editor, Wagtail, which we have no control of and cannot change. We have brought this issue up with the Wagtail team and they are looking at solutions to this issue.
Disproportionate burden
Repetition of image and text
The sidebar navigation part on child pages under the section 'themes', such as 'Defining'. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Context) for the repetition of link text and alternative image text. This was a feature added when the website was built originally in 2017. To fix this would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.
